Alex is the Founding Partner and Managing Director of LF since its inception in 2004, the year that Poland joined the EU, and has a long track record with clients in telecoms, media, private equity and infrastructure, among others.
In 20+ years in PL/CEE, where he resides since 1996, he has completed over 50 M&A and debt transactions totaling over EUR 5 billion, leading projects on behalf of international strategic investors, Polish corporates, as well as private equity firms. Landmark deals include the collaborative creation of Polish leading mobile operator PLAY, the acquisition of Polish auction website Allegro, and the Polish market entry of Italian motorway operator Autostrade Spa, as well as more recently the debt financing of Chilean mobile operator WOM.
From 2012 to 2017, Alex was Senior Partner/Senior Adviser at Warsaw-based Abris Capital, a leading mid-market PE firm, overseeing its CEE activities. His landmark transactions during those years were in waste processing (Novago, PL) and e-commerce fulfilment (Urgent Cargus, RO).
In 2003-4 he was Executive Director and Head of M&A of Bank Pekao S.A., Poland's largest listed bank, which was majority controlled by Italy's Unicredito, selling a range of non-core assets for the bank.
Between 1999 and 2001, Alex served as CFO of Elektrim, a major listed Polish conglomerate with over 100 subsidiaries including key assets in telecoms and energy, with Deutsche Telekom as the primary JV partner in mobile telephony. On behalf of Elektrim, he co-lead the M&A negotiations for Poland’s largest inward FDI investment at that time (1999), the USD 1.2 billion sale of an indirect 24% stake in ERA GSM to Vivendi of France, and raised in excess of EUR 800m of debt financing to allow ERA GSM to become the leading Polish mobile operator of the time.
Alex commenced his career at EBRD in London and Warsaw, where -after a short stint working as an economist - he gained 5 years of structured finance and principal investment experience, including representing the bank on the investment committees of five private equity funds.
Alex is a German citizen and has been resident in Poland since 1996; he is an economics graduate of the London School of Economics, and holds an MPA degree from the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, where he was a McCloy Scholar. He is fluent in English, German, Polish, Italian, and Spanish, and conversational in French, Russian and Portuguese.
